Foundation Recreation Class
The recreational Foundation classes are our starting point for young gymnasts. Children who are four and over start their gymnastics experience with us here, receiving a well balanced programme of gymnastics activities.
Activities here include floor work, vaulting and rebound activities, all of which helps the children to achieve a solid foundation of gymnastics skills on which to build. Gymnasts in these classes also get the opportunity to begin working towards their British Gymnastics proficiency awards.
These classes are one hour sessions taking place mainly in our dedicated Teaching Gym.
Foundation class parents are required to stay and accompany their children, to encourage them and to observe the excitement of these classes.
The benefits of learning gymnastics
Our expert coaches are highly experienced at working with youngsters at different stages of development and all levels of ability.
Our recreational classes help children learn the core skills to advance in the sport of gymnastics. They’re also of great help in improving:
- Confidence
- Self-discipline
- Strength & Flexibility
- Agility
- Coordination
- Spacial awareness
- Social interaction
In addition, learning gymnastics is also of great benefit to a child’s participation and development in other sports.
Foundation Class Times
Our Foundation classes are one hour sessions running seven days a week. For the full timetable (and information on booking classes), please visit our Timetables & Booking page.
Moving on to Advanced Gymnastics
When a gymnast reaches an ability level beyond the Foundation experience they will be invited to attend our more advanced classes, to build on their skills and accomplishments.
To advance, the coaches will be looking for the gymnasts to show a good understanding of the following skills:
- Backward roll down an incline
- Forward roll to sitting position
- Cartwheel
- Kick up towards handstand on the floor (weight bearing)
All our Advanced Recreational Gymnastics classes take place in the Main Gym.
